28 Apr 2009 You Probably Didn’t Even Notice…

… but I’ve been missing a bit lately.  Things have been really busy here and our modem broke.  I drove to an almost neighboring city to get a replacement this morning and we are now back on-line.  I cannot even say that we used our time off-line particularly wisely.  We just did all of the other usual stuff.

We had a great weekend for garage saling.  The richest neighborhood in town had their annual community garage sale.  It was truly better than usual.  We managed to find several great bargains which included clothing with the tags still attached ($1 per item) and a $2 shelf that now houses the children’s movie collection.  We also found an educational game, a few good picture books and a couple of action figures for the boys.  Wildchild managed to find himself a couple of toys while he was out with us as well (he’s sneaky that way, but he certainly can charm people!).

For anyone who might be interested, I haven’t killed our little container garden yet this year, nor have the bunnies found it, nor has the dog gotten upset with us and dug everything up.  We have some actual plants growing, a few sprouting, a few freshly planted and even a tomato that is flowering!  I’m almost afraid to get my hopes up, but I cannot help being at least a LITTLE excited!  If I have time, I’ll post some pictures tomorrow.

26 Apr 2009 Are YOU A Dreamer Or A Doer?

You Are a Doer
You are primarily concerned with what is actual. You tend to be a practical person.
You love to stay busy, and you are always immersed in projects.

You are in touch with your senses, and you enjoy indulging them. You’re likely a crafter of some sort.
You crave different sensations in life, whether it’s working with your hands, playing sports, or eating your favorite meal.

Moving the shelves seems to have led our own perfect storm of household rearranging.  If you wonder where I am, I’m probably under a piece of furniture somewhere trying to help heft it into a new location.  I’ll be back just as soon as I can crawl out from under whatever I’m currently hiding beneath!

On a completly unrelated note, we’ve decided to go ahead and plant another garden for me to kill.  Hopefully this one will last long enough for us to get to eat some of it, too! Smiley  So far, so good.  We actually have a few hopeful-looking little sprouts sunning themselves on our front porch and waiting to be transplanted.

21 Apr 2009 Further Proof That I Am Totally Inadequate

I absolutely positively cannot seem to teach math from a book.  There.  I said it.  I think it probably stems from my ADHD and dyslexia issues, but I cannot really be sure.

It isn’t that I do not understand the math.  I really do in my own weird way which might not in any way resemble the way that the math books say I should be doing it.  It isn’t that the books we have used (and they have been many by many top-rated publishers of math books) did not do a great job of explaining things.  I just happen to have an amazing ability to turn the perfectly sensible information from a perfectly sensible math book and turn it into gobbledy-gook when trying to teach it to my children.

The good news?  Apparently, I’m pretty good at teaching math as long as I avoid referring to anything in a book.  My children are actually doing well in math this year.  They are understanding everything they are given to do, are making their best math grades ever and have even stopped whining over math lessons.  I’m still struggling with WANTING to refer to a math book if for no other reason than to have some idea of what order I should be teaching things in.  I think I scare my children when I even approach their old math books these days…. Sigh.

Now, what on earth am I going to do with the math books?

20 Apr 2009 It Seemed Like Such A Good Idea At the Time…

The children and I spent much of our weekend clearing, cleaning, and moving bookshelves.  Things really do look much better (at least, most of us think so!), but we are all feeling a bit tired and sore.  The payoff?  When Eaglewood first saw it, he asked me why we had decided to move them!  I promise that we didn’t kill him. ;)
16 Apr 2009 A Timely Reminder

My littlest guy has been reminding me to slow down and enjoy life more lately.  This isn’t easy for someone with a hyperactivity problem!  Yesterday, my Wildchild was feeling sick and cuddly.  He just wanted to hang out with his Momma, so that is how we spent most of our day.  I have to admit that it was wonderful.  All too soon he will be too big to spend a day cuddling in my lap.  All too soon he will be too big to be fascinated by the three little brass bells that sit on my side table (don’t ask!).  All too soon he will be too big to sit in my lap coloring all over my meal plans and shopping lists (Hey!  The orange and purple added a lot of cheer to my boring blue ink on white paper stuff!).  I’m really enjoying my little guy.  I just have to remember to take the time to be still and let him enjoy me, too. :)
14 Apr 2009 I Love Spring

I love the flowers and seeing the trees in bud.  I love the newness and freshness of everything.  I love the rainy nights and even watching my boys splash in puddles and bring home frogs, toads, turtles and snakes.  I love the rainbows and the kite flying.  I love the weird insects we find and the new discoveries my children make.  I love everything but the allergies that are just killing me right now.  Sigh.
08 Apr 2009 Coming Out Of Hiding To Say “Happy Birthday”!
 |  Category: Uncategorized  | 2 Comments
I know that I have been away for awhile.  The truth of the matter is that this is still a rather difficult time of year for us and I don’t want to use my blog to dwell on family pain.  We still love and miss our little Samuel (who would have been three years old on the 5th) and Eaglewood still has a difficult time with his birthday (today) because of the nearness of the two dates.  The children and I love Eaglewood and still feel a need to celebrate his birthday and lavish attention on him, but we are sensitive to the fact that it causes him some difficulty at times.  However, wishing him a happy birthday is no problem at all even if it is rather difficult for us to do this year since he is off on a business trip to Colorado.  So, if you feel so inclined, please pop over to Eaglewood’s blog to wish him a happy one today!  Thanks!
