25 Feb 2009 Boring Stuff
 |  Category: Beautiful Day, Homeschooling  | One Comment
Is it wrong for me, a normally responsible parent and teacher to my children, to be bored with school?  Yeah, I thought so, too.  Spring Fever has set in and completely taken over my brain.  While I’m teaching math, I’m struggling not to stare out the window at all of that lovely Texas sunshine and plot my escape.  It never ceases to amaze me just how boring even MY favorite subjects can start to seem this time of year.  Maybe we should just pack up the school books and head out to the park with a nice big picnic lunch because I don’t think I’m going to last much longer. ;)
23 Feb 2009 Whatever It Was, We Didn’t Do It

Eaglewood had two whole days off in a row this weekend.  Since that is something that just about never happens, we celebrated by hanging around the house NOT doing those millions of little things on our “to do” list that really need to get done.  The children and I also did a bit of garage saling and Eaglewood did a bit of car shopping.  We didn’t accomplish much that you can see, but we had a wonderful time with each other and with our children.  Somehow I cannot help but think that having time together and working on our relationships accomplished more in the long run than just getting a few chores done.
19 Feb 2009 Is It Possible To Have Spring Fever Already?

Do to an overwhelming lack of desire to do any formal homeschooling today (and that was just on my part), we didn’t really do  much.  We did, however, run away from home and have a wonderful time thrifting for old books, clothing with metal fasteners and other things that the CPSIA has probably made illegal.  We will probably follow all of that frivolity up with some serious reading of classics, figuring out our menu plan and food budget for the week and some playing of MadLibs and other things that aren’t particularly educational and just waste time.   Smiley

In case you didn’t catch it, yes that was sarcasm.  It is amazing just how much my children learn when they have opportunities like this to actually put the things they learn about into action.  One of the many things I like about homeschooling is that we actually get to practice what we learn.

17 Feb 2009 My New Favorite Quote (At Least For This Week)

Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to reform.

11 Feb 2009 Further Closet Adventures

We were all trying to squeeze into my husband’s closet last night while the tornado sirens were going off and it occurred to me that I really need to take some time to get our closets cleaned out and organized again.  If you don’t see much of me this week, it will probably be because I was buried under an avalanche of haphazardly stashed books, shoes and junk.  Just pass me a fresh trash bag and perhaps a crowbar.

On a brighter note…  I was heartened to note that we did, indeed, learn from our previous hiding-in-the-closet experience and remembered to bring reading materials, music players, flashlights, favorite toys and something to drink.  It was still crowded, still uncomfortable and still not fun at all, but at least when someone found an elbow in his or her face it was for the good reason that the elbow’s owner was busy clutching something very important to him or her! ;)

10 Feb 2009 Catching Up And Being A Difficult Valentine
 |  Category: Holidays, Quirkiness  | 4 Comments

Things have been quite busy here in the Nest lately and we have been kept quite busy trying to stay on top of it all.  There has been a lot of crafting, painting, rearranging, cleaning and repairing going on.  We hope that organizing might soon find its way into that list as well. ;)

What is going on with all of you?  Do you have any plans for Valentine’s Day?  I must admit that I am a notoriously difficult person to deal with on Valentine’s Day.  I’m diabetic and allergic to sugar so candy just doesn’t work for me.  I would rather have a live plant than flowers any day (or even just some seeds!).   I have actually informed Eaglewood that he needn’t waste time looking for the perfect card either since the waste of money always bothers me.  See what I mean?  I’m difficult.  The truth is that what I want most for Valentine’s Day is pretty much what I want for every other day.  I want time with Eaglewood and with our children; I want to be with those I love.  That is what makes me happiest.  How about you?

05 Feb 2009 Thank You!

I am pretty sure that I have some of the sweetest readers in the world!  Thanks a bunch for the prayers and words of encouragement.

The van is now mostly repaired.   Eaglewood and Cardoc (Eaglewood’s twin brother) are my heroes!  We still don’t have heat or air, but everything else is working.  We are looking around for the best deal on a new compressor for the a/c.

The children generously shared a minor headcold with Eaglewood and me.  They also generously shared plenty of sympathy and hugs, so I really cannot complain too much.  Well, maybe I could, but no one would listen anyway. Smiley  Besides, we are feeling much better now and there would not be much point in complaining anyway.  Life is joyous and hectic and GOOD.
