30 Jun 2007 Some Flooding Photos
 |  Category: Home-front  | 6 Comments

As you may know from watching, reading or listening to the news, many parts of Texas have been experiencing some flooding.  Here are some pictures that Ditto and Pookie took of the flooding at our local creek.

29 Jun 2007 30 Questions Meme
 |  Category: Just For Fun, Meme  | 2 Comments

This is another meme from Carrie’s blog!

1. Have you ever been searched by the cops?
Nope.

2. Do you close your eyes on roller coaster?
Never!  I’m usually right in front enjoying the ride.

3. When’s the last time you’ve been sledding?
Years ago on the sled that Daddy made for me.

4. Would you rather sleep with someone else, or alone?
I prefer having Eaglewood with me any day!

5. Do you believe in ghosts?
No.

6. Do you consider yourself creative?
I guess so.  Other people have told me I am.  I don’t really stop and think about it much, though.

7. Do you think O.J. killed his wife?
It does look like it.

8. Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie?
Neither.  I’ve seen them mentioned a LOT in the news and such but I’m not really sure who either of them are!

9. Can you honestly say you know ANYTHING about politics?

Government and Economics (and by extension, politics) are an interest of mine.  Other people (Triton, Digital Brownshirt and Erik come to mind) do a MUCH better job of talking about politics than I do, though.

10. Do you know how to play poker?
Not really.  Don’t you have to sit still and pay attention when playing that game? ;)

11. Have you ever been awake for 48 hours straight?
Probably sometime during my misspent youth…

12. What’s your favorite commercial?
I would have to watch TV or listen to more radio to have a favorite.  I don’t really have plans to do either anytime soon.

13. Who was your first love?
I don’t remember…  Probably a little boy named David from my kindergarten class.  He was  my hero as he could catch really BIG lizards! ;)

14. If you’re driving in the middle of the night, and no one is around you, do you run a red light?
No.

15. Do you have a secret that no one knows but you?
Eaglewood knows pretty much everything about me that has ever been worth knowing.  If I were to have a secret from him, it would only be something along the lines of what he is getting for his birthday! ;)

16. Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees?
I wouldn’t know.  I live in Rangers’ territory.

18. How often do you remember your dreams?
Pretty often.  One of the first things that happens every morning is that Ditto and I compare notes to see who had the weirder dreams!

19. What’s the one thing on your mind?
One thing?  Can people really think about ONLY ONE THING????

20. Do you always wear your seat belt?
Yes.

21. What talent do you wish you had?
Hmmm….  There are so many things that I’m trying to learn right now and things that I want to learn more about.  I don’t think I could narrow that down to just one wish!  You should see the stack of non-fiction books on my night table that I use to learn about all of the things that interest me!  Then again, maybe you shouldn’t…. ;)

22. Do you like Sushi?
I’ve never tried sushi.  Veggies I eat raw, but meat has to at least be rare!

23. What do you wear to bed?
It depends.

24. Do you truly hate anyone?
Nope.  I’m not any good at that.

25. If you could sleep with one famous person, who would it be?
I’ll just stick with Eaglewood, thank you!

26. Do you know anyone in jail?
Not anymore.  The usual suspects are both out right now!

27. What food do you find disgusting?
Well…. That sushi question brings raw fish to mind.

28. Have you ever made fun of your friends behind their back?
Probably during my aforementioned misspent youth…  I shudder to think about such things now.

29. Have you ever been punched in the face?
No, never.

30. Do you believe in angels and demons?
Yes.  Do you?

28 Jun 2007 Restaurant Meme
 |  Category: Just For Fun, Meme  | 2 Comments
Carrie has tagged me for this meme and since this is my FIRST time to EVER be officially tagged, I just HAVE to try it! ;)

1. Link to name of person that tagged you.
2. Include state and country you live in.
3. List top 5 favorite local restaurants.
4. Tag 5 other people and let them know they’ve been tagged.

I live in the great state of Texas which is, I think, still a part of the United States of Texas… er… America! ;)   I should also mention that I’m a formerly overweight pregnant diabetic on a VERY strict diet and I am a total tightwad.  Eating out is a rarity for me at best!

1. Jason’s Deli – I ate there once with my sis-in-law and thoroughly enjoyed the food.  Kaylaugh has very severe and numerous food allergies and is on an even more restricted diet than I am so it is  a rare occasion indeed when we find a restaurant where we can both eat the food!

2. Chick-Fil-A – I’m not sure why but this is Eaglewood and my children’s favorite place to eat. ;)

3. Cracker Barrell – They have a great diabetic menu for people like me!  I have only been there two or three times on date nights with Eaglewood, but I did enjoy it very much.

4. IHOP – Sad, I know, but this is the only other restaurant that I have been to since we’ve been here.  It was another trip with my sis-in-law and her daughters, too! ;)   The food was okay.  They DID have a diabetic menu.  The service was fantastic especially when you consider that all four of us had special dietary problems. :/

5. Mr. Jim’s Pizza – I don’t eat pizza, but Eaglewood and the kids have it a couple of times a year and like Mr. Jim’s so I’m going to use it as my fifth restaurant anyway. ;)

We really only eat out at all on very rare occasions so I’m probably not the best person to do this quiz.  However, it was fun!  I won’t officially tag anyone, but would love to know if any of you actually do this meme!

27 Jun 2007 Up To Our Eyeballs
 |  Category: Family, Home-front  | Leave a Comment

The major theme around the house this week seems to be “we’re up to our eyeballs”.  The flooding in our area has become so common that it is beginning to elicit a “ho hum” attitude in my offspring!  None of it has reached the actual homes in our neighborhood, but the creek levels have been impressively high and the streets and even highways have faced flooding conditions this past week.  Eaglewood and I were able to experience some of the flooded road conditions first hand just yesterday.  Yikes!

Eaglewood is out of town and is up to his eyeballs in frustration after arriving in Wyoming only to find out that his luggage and tools had not!  It’s mighty hard to do your job without tools or parts.  Please keep him in your prayers today.

On a personal note, I’m still up to my own eyeballs in pregnancy hormones.  I’m trying not to drive my family too crazy and I hope they are trying to reciprocate by not driving me too crazy either! Smiley  Watch out, though.  I crochet when I’m frustrated.  Those who know me get crocheted gifts.  You might just want to keep your distance for awhile! Smiley

This might save you just a wee bit of reading! Smiley

Sneefert with one of two woolly bear caterpillars found in our back yard.

A tiny gecko which Pookie found in one of our bathrooms!  Ditto photographed it with a penny so that you can get an idea of just how very tiny it is.

Sunflowers from the field behind us.  Pookie photographed these earlier today while learning how to use the good camera! Smiley

Some fresh tomatoes from our local farmer’s market.  There were too many to fit on the plate.  I did not photograph the plums as they were eaten too quickly! Smiley

These pillow tops sat in my closet for two years before I finally found some inexpensive pillows on sale ($2.50 at Wal-Mart) to attach them to!  I’m such a tightwad. Smiley

These are some of the spa-style washcloths I have been crocheting using the pattern from Lion Brand.  They will be part of a Christmas gift later this year.

22 Jun 2007 I Didn’t MEAN to Disappear!
 |  Category: Children, Family, Home-front, Homeschooling  | 4 Comments

I’ve spent the past week or so wandering about in a soupy, sneezy, allergy-riddled haze.  If you have ever suffered from severe allergies you probably know exactly what I am talking about.  If you haven’t, you might want to take a moment to thank the Lord! ;)   I would love to tell you what a wonderful and delightful and (most importantly) helpful family I have had surrounding me during this time.  I have, too!  Unfortunately, two of them have also been suffering from the same soupy haziness and when it is really severe we DO still manage to get on each other’s nerves a tad. :(

We will be boldly venturing forth today to do our bulk shopping and run by the bakery outlet.  We will also be picking up an item or two at the local homeschool book shop.  If you see us, we will be the family wandering about in a distracted fog of allergies and giggles. ;)

17 Jun 2007 Happy Father’s Day!

I just want to take a moment here to say “happy Father’s Day” to my dear husband, Eaglewood, to my own wonderful Dad and to all of the fathers who give so generously and unselfishly to the next generation.
14 Jun 2007 Please Pardon My Disappearance…

I’m sorry that I haven’t been around much the past couple of days.  Things have been a trifle busy here in the Nest.  Our two eldest have both taken turns being ill as well.  So far, Eaglewood, the Wild Things and I have all escaped their bug.  I just pray that we all continue to do so!
12 Jun 2007 Proof Pregnancy Hormones Make You Crazy(er)

Need proof?  Here ya go!

Yep!  I’ve pretty much gone baby crochet nuts.  Thankfully, Eaglewood and the children are amused instead of annoyed. Smiley

Update:

The pattern for the ducky bib in the first photo can be found in the April 2004 issue of Crochet World magazine.

The pattern for the hats in the second and third photos can be found here.

The pattern for the booties in the third photo can be found here.

The pattern for the snowman bib in the last photo can be found here

The rest of the patterns are just things that I modified other patterns to get, or made up myself.

Your extremely Cajun cousin (who goes by the name “Scorpie”, no less!) accuses you of talking funny!  I’m just sayin’…
